Deacons for Defense and Justice

Instapundit points to a very timely article that I've had a lot of interest in. Ken Blackwell writes on Townhall.com that during Black History Month we should take a moment to reflect on how the Second Amendment had a lot to do with the success of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.

I've always been fascinated with certain folks who are staunch supporters of the ongoing Civil Rights movement while at the same time being anti-gun. I'm often stunned to see them not understand Dred Scott and the 14th Amendment or all of the racism that drove most of the modern gun controls that exist today.

Update: A little more scholarly background on this topic.
